The Dream Char Siu

Listen up everybody! This is the absolute award winning Char Siu. Not just an ordinary roasted Char Siu but an unbeatable one in terms of flavor and tenderness. It is an absolute winner which is truly unrivalled!

Its tastes just yummy. This Char Siu is at its best served with steamed rice just as in Siu Yeh Fan together with roasted duck...

Tsukimi Udon

What can I say? Kake Udon has become one of my favorite noodles to cook and to eat. The broth is light and tastes as Japanese as it can be. Topped with a raw egg the Kake has turned into a Tsukimi Udon, or a Bright Moon Udon. Yummy!

Char Siu

This is the ordinary Char Siu marinated with pre-packed marinate powder of Lobo. The pork meat is tender but solid. It is an Okay Char Siu not too great not too bad.

Teriyaki Salmon

Last night's grilled teriyaki salmon was a real winner! After practicing for a year I feel I am on my way to perfection when it comes cooking of this delicious, healthy and straight seafood dish. Totemo oishii!

Roasted pork ribs

It's not a Japanese dish but roasted Chinese pork ribs with the same flavoring as Char Siu. But I must show it as it looks so fantastic and it tastes so superbly. Also, one of my resolutions to further improving my cooking of pork ribs and Char Siu.

Japanese soft yolk boiled egg

I am very proud of myself for mastering the cooking of the famous Japanese soft boiled egg (半熟卵). It is one of my favorites and it goes well with noodles and rice.

Instant Ramen

This is one of my favorite: Japanese instant ramen topped with nori strips, green onions, corns and slices of Japanese Cha-Shu. Very suitable as a quick lunch bite...

Furofuki Daikon

This is a very popular home made dish in Japan. It is white radish cut into bite-size and then have it shimmered in a broth of dashi, shoyu and mirin. A very light veg dish that goes well with steamed white rice...

Japanese Gyoza

Japanese gyoza according to the recipe of Harumi Kurihara. Unlike the usual Chinese jiaozi, this version of gyoza has is open at one end of the skin, the fillings are entirely minced fresh shrimps with shredded Chinese chives. The taste is superb!

Steamed Asari Clams

This is a very fresh tasting seafood dish with Asari clams steamed in Ponzu soy sauce. The tanginess of the Ponzu soy sauce provides a contrast in flavor with the clams.

Cha-Shu Gohan

Cha-Shu Gohan is the Japanese version of the Cantonese Cha-Siu Fan. It is steamed rice topped with cubes of Japanese style Cha-Shu, shredded scallion, nori strips and a dash of shoyu.

Prawn with Fried Tofu Don

From a simple recipe book on Japanese donburis I choosed this one. Since there was some cooked rice left from the night before and some Chinese fried "tofu pok" left in the fridge I used those left-over ingredients to make a delicious and quick bite. This Prawn with Fried Tofu Donburi tastes pretty sweet due to the mirin that is added into the gravy. Overall, since Chinese "tofu poks" are used one can better call it a Sino-Japanese dish...

Katsudon

This year I am even getting more excited about cooking Japanese food. The Japanese pork chop with steamed rice aka "Katsudon" I cooked is a real winner! It tastes is so wonderful as if you are having that in a eatery in Tokyo.
